Carol Flamm, Soprano

Carol Flamm’s performances have been described as “alluring”, filled with “warmth and vitality” and “charming”. A champion of contemporary, avant-garde and Baroque music, Ms.Flamm has sung lead roles with the Magic Circle Opera Repertory Ensemble in a number of 20th Century Operas, including Alison in Gustav Holst’s Wandering Scholar and Peony in Ned Rorem’s The Childhood Miracle. Her recording of Mr. Rorem’s Three Sisters Who are not Sisters received critical praise in the NY Times.  She recently performed the role of Siren in composer Johnny Reinhart’s Odysseus, which involved vocal improvisation.

An active soloist, Ms. Flamm has performed Lieder, Oratorio, Yiddish song and, another unique specialty, Sephardic song, in many concert settings in the United States and Europe. The Midi Libre of Southern France said of a recent performance of Clerembault’s Orpheé, “she understands the subtleties and integrates the nobility of French Baroque music.”

Ms. Flamm is a founding member of the Salomone Trio, a vocal ensemble specializing in Renaissance and medieval music and Sephardic music, Her Sephardic solo, Noches, Noches, from the group’s CD Sacred and Profane,  was featured on National Public Radio’s Millennium of Music.

In addition, Ms. Flamm has premiered 20th Century oratorio at Merkin Hall, and was invited to perform premiers of art songs, some of which were composed especially for her, at Music Under Construction, and the Third Street Music School.  She has sung Baroque and Traditional Opera with Bel Canto Opera, and Opera at Florham and Il Piccolo Teatro del Opera. She sang Frasquita in Magic Circle Opera’s A Gypsy Carmen, which added Flamenco dance to the Bizet’s Carmen.

Other repertoire of interest includes the roles of Countess in Le Nozze de Figaro, soprano arias from Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, De Falla’s Siete Cancioneras Popularies.
